Basic Types of Cheap Perfumes
It's important not to confuse cheap perfumes with low-quality perfumes. Cheap perfumes are discounted, high quality scents. But just because a perfume has a low price tag doesn't always mean it's a good buy. Make sure you are purchasing a discounted version of a high-quality scent.
There are a few factors that determine a particular perfume's strength and quality.
Perfume Type
There are 6 basic types of fragrances; Floral, Oriental, Citrus, Woodsy, Green and Fougere.
Floral is the most popular category of fragrances. It is made of smells of various flowers such as roses, jasmine, blossoms, or carnations. Many times they will be blended together for a bouquet effect.
Oriental is made from various spices and create rich, sensuous scents.
Citrus fragrances are, of course, derived from citrus fruits such as lemon and tangerine. These tend to be refreshing scents that aren't too strong or obvious.
Oak and moss characterize Woodsy scents, and are sweet and earthy.
Green types are made of leaves and herbs and evoke The Great Outdoors.
Fougere is a combination of herbs, lavender, and mossy smells.
Perfume Strength
Fragrances are mixed at different "strengths." A true perfume will have 25% - 40% pure scent. True perfumes are expensive and can be too powerful for the average consumer.
The most popular fragrances sold are eau du parfum, which contain 15% - 30% scents. Eau du Cologne and Eau du Toilet are lighter scented products and can be applied with less care; these typically contain 5% - 15% aromatics. You can even find fragrances with 3% - 5% aromatics that can be sprinkled on anytime, especially after a bath or shower.
Understanding the type of perfume you are buying can help you make a better choice and have a more enjoyable experience when shopping for cheap perfumes.
